Festival
Summary from Israel and Jordan 1998
The Feast tour began by the Dead Sea in Israel.
Temperatures were very high (between 35 and 45 degrees Celsius) we
were glad of air conditioning in the hotel and on the tour buses.
About 130 church members were here to keep
the Feast in the biblical lands now known as Israel and the Hashemite
Kingdom of Jordan. Festival co-ordinator Charles Melear worked
closely with Jim and Maria Murray of MTM Travel to organise the
tour, and they certainly did a good job, giving us many rewarding
and memorable experiences.
People soon got to know each other, with
such a small crowd and doing everything together that was inevitable.
For me, that was one of the highlights of this Feast: co-operation,
making new friends, fellowship every day and the historically-rich
sites that brought alive the Bible.
We visited: Masada, Petra, a trip across
the Jordanian desert in jeeps, Mount Nebo, Jerusalem (the Old
City, Yad Vashem, Temple Mount, Mount of Olives), Jericho, Nazareth,
Bethlehem, a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee, Megiddo and Caesarea.
One of the best evenings was in Jordan, when
the tour guides dressed two women up in traditional costume,
covering everything except face and hands.
Another highlight was on the Sabbath in Jerusalem,
when Bill Cowan gave a moving sermon on the miracles in his life,
and he told us about when his son died one year previously. Other
messages were good also.
This was a great Feast, one to remember for
many years, for everyone who went.
